Stuck in a Rut

I’m officially in a post-marathon rut. I started focusing on the marathon back in December when I was doing yoga a crazy 5 times per week. Now its all over, and the fourth of July is over and now I need to find a new normal.

I teach Yoga Sculpt Monday mornings and Wednesday evenings which keeps me from being totally lazy, but when it comes to running or walking outside I really feel like its too darn hot outside to do anything! I participated in the Nisswa Firecracker 5k on Saturday morning, and I’ll write a review of it soon. But I was slow, and my knee hurt at first, and my ankles hurt the entire time. So I don’t know whats next. I do a lot better at working out when I have a goal to works towards. However races are expensive! So I’ve got 3 options

#1. My First Triย $85. August 24.

Pro: This race is made for beginners!

Con: Only 6 weeks to get comfortable biking and swimming.

#2. Women Rock Half $95

Pro: A friend is already signed up

Con: I’m in a rut, and I’m not sure this race is what it takes to get me out of my rut.

#3. Athleta IronGirl Duathlon $95

Pro: I’ve got a full 10 weeks to prepare.

Con: I own a mountain bike and don’t want to be the rookie on the course.

So I’ve decided to get some opinions, which is where all you readers come in, please vote in my poll to help me decide what race I should do. Bonus points for a comment that helps sway my decision!

  1. Love all these options. I would go for the half marathon or duatholon. If you decide to go to the duatholon, let me know – I have a coupon code you can use for $10 off!!

  2. I’m curious about the half marathon. I’d like to try something like that but the date conflicts when my kids are running a cross country race. If you do it, let me know how it goes.

  3. I found your site while looking for local race reports a while back – Congrats on Grandmas.

I ran the TCM last fall, the post marathon blues are very real. Your next race isn’t as important for getting out of the rut as having someone to train with for it is. It’s way too easy to make excuses not to run and stay in bed if nobody else is waiting on you or holding you accountable. With that in mind if you can arrange to train with your friend #2 is a good bet.
